– SPACE AND OBJECTS IN ANIMATION
Director: Co
Hoedeman
He was born in Amsterdam, in Holland, having
established in Quebeque when he was 25 years
old and short time after entered in ONF (Office
Nationel du Film), where he Directed “La
Dérive des Continents” (1968),
“Maboule” (1969), “Matriouska”
(1970) and “Tchou-tchou” (1972).
After that he made an apprenticeship in Czechoslovakia
to improve the techniques of marionette animation.
When he returned, became interested in the
legends of the Great North and directed four
films in narrow collaboration with the “Inuits”.
Then came “Le Château de Sable”
(1977), “Le Trésor des Grotocéans”
(1980), “Mascarades” (1984), “Charles
et François” (1987), “La
Boîte” (1989), “L’Ours
Renifleur” (1992) e “Le Jardin
d’Ecos” (1997).
“Ludovic” it is his last work.
Hoedeman’s films are seen all over the
world and have won more than 50 awards to
date. In 1978, he was distinguished with the
“Oscar” for the best animation
film with his work “Le Château
de Sable”.
Co Hoedeman is one of the head figures of
ONF, state organism of the French Canada,
responsible for one of the more proficuous,
inventive and creative cinematography image-to-image
of the world.

Director of animation films, is author of
the short movie “O Massacre dos Inocentes”,
distinguished with six international prizes
in festivals of Portugal, Czech republic,
Australia and England. He works in the animation
studios of the Cineclube of Avanca, where
he directs a new work.

– THE FICTION IN TELEVISION
Director: Pancho
Casal
Pancho Casal was born in Corunha in 1955.
After a passage as a superior office staff
and director of commercial departments in
companies such as Union Fenosa, MBB, Intace
and CAHORS, he begins his career as audiovisuals
producer in the middle 80’s, being
today one of the most outstanding producers
of cinema, television and publicity of Spain.
Pancho Casal is the responsible person for
several audiovisuals production companies,
among others the “Continental”,
dividing his activity between Madrid and
La Coruña.
Production Director and Executive Producer
on more than 300 advertising “spots”,
of the animation series “Las Señales
tus Amigas”, and television series
as “A Familia Pita”, one of
the greatest fiction successes in TVG -
Television of Galiza. Recently he has been
turning his activity to tele-pictures production.
He’s producer and co-producer of several
long-plays, among which are included some
made in co-operate with Portugal. “Continental”,
directed by Xavier Villaverde and nominated
for the Goya rewards, was his first Long-play
production. He is finishing a new film with
this director, partially filmed in our country.

– TO PHOTOGRAPH A MUSEUM OF MOVIES
WITH A PINHOLE
Director: Jochen
Dietrich
Jochen Dietrich was born in Weidenau in
Germany in 1965.
He studied philosophy, German and art-plastic
in the Universities of Munster and Siegen.
Scholar of Erasmus in the University of
Aveiro and doctorate scholarship in the
University of Siegen, where he prepares
thesis on “THE Picture with dark camera
as medium in the learning activity.”
Scholarship for the Superior School AR.CO
in Lisbon, having accomplished in the years
1996/97 the project “Cine-Theatres
of Portugal”, in exhibition in the
“AVANCA’98.”
Educational of picture in the Universities
of Siegen and Giessen, he has been guiding
several shops of picture of “pinhole.”
Since 1984 he has been exposing at several
European countries, namely in the Hungarian
Museum of Picture, in Frankfurt Deutsches
Filmmuseum and in the Photo gallery Imagolucis
of Porto.
Director:
Aníbal Lemos
Aníbal Lemos was born in Estarreja
in 1951
Photographic artist is the director of Fotogaleria
Imagolucis of Porto.
It possesses the Superior Course of Picture
in ESAP of Porto, being at the moment accomplishing
masters degree studies in photographic art
in the University of Derby in England.
Awarded several times, his works were exhibited
in several national galleries but also in
Denmark, Germany (Galeria Typophoto in Singen),
France (“la Septembre Photographie”
in Nice and “la Mois Photo”
in Paris), Belgium (Gallery “you Read
Chiroux” in Liège), Spain,
USES and Brazil (exhibition and conference
in the “I Space Cultural EDEL in Porto
Alegre).
It has been developing in a parallel way
an intense activity of artistic creation
and of teaching.
He is author and director of the Course
of Picture of the Contemporary Academy of
Performance - Porto and responsible for
the “Atelier” of Picture of
the Centre of Art of S.J.da Madeira.

Mariana Macedo
Photographer, she has been working in the
areas of the advertising picture, fashion
report and of graphic arts (she is author
of the pictures included in the poster of
the AVANCA’98). With the Superior
Course of Picture of ESAP-Porto and a specialization
in photojournalism, she has been collaborating
in the “Regional Newspaper of Aveiro”,
in the “Avanca Magazine” and
participated in several exhibitions. She
is part of the AURA group.

DIRECTING DOCUMENTARIES
Director: Alejandra
Islas
Director and scriptwriter, she studied cinematography
in the Universidade Nacional Autónoma
in Mexico.
She has directed more than thirty biographical,
historical and social documentaries in cinema
and video. Amongst those: “Iztacalco”,
“Cerca de los Lejos”, “Tina
Modotti”, “Remedios Varo”,
“El caso Molinet” e “Eisenstein
en México: El Círculo Eterno”.
Distinguished with the “Ariel de plata”
(the most important prize of the Mexican
Academy of Cinematography), for the documentary
“Iztacalco”, she received several
other prizes.
Her documentary “Eisenstein en Mexico:
El Círculo Eterno”, received
the Television prize (ex-aequo) in the AVANCA’97,
having also won the first prize of the MIDIA’97
in Madrid and nominated in the category
of Documentary of Art in the International
EMMY AWARD 1996.

Teacher of audiovisuals and publicity in
the Fernando Pessoa University in Porto,
Video maker and cineclub lover, he has been
collaborating actively with the Cineclube
de Avanca. In the University of Aveiro he
is responsible for the audiovisual equipment.

THE WRITING OF SHORT-FILMS SCREENPLAYS
Director: Emmamuel Oberg
Emmanuel Oberg was born in France in 1966.
Scriptwriter and Director, worked as reader
and analyst of scripts for “Le Studio
CANAL+”, “Flash Films”,
“CANAL+ ECRITURE” and “A.C.E.
(European Cinema Workshop).
Script teacher in the “IIIS - International
Institute for Image and Sound”, “F.E.M.I.S.”
and “European Centre for Film Production
Training (C.E.F.P.F.), both in Paris.
He was consultant of the European Commission
in 1996 and 97 and specialist in scriptwriter’s
formation for the attribution of subsidies
of the Program MEDIA 2.
As a director, his first film won the cinema
prize of the AVANCA’97 and the first
prizes of the New York and Potsdam Festivals.
At the present moment, Oberg writes the
long-play “Child's Play”, a
fantastic “thriller” developed
with CANAL+ECRITURE.

– Porto, has also been signing several
works as a director. “A Primeira Vez”
is his most recent fiction short film that
is being produced by the Cine-Club of Avanca.

– EXECUTE A CD-ROM STORY-BOARD
Director: Iginio Straffi
Iginio Straffi was born in 1965 in Gualdo,
Italy.
He began his activity with cartoons and
advertising illustration.
Responsible for the “story-boards”
and “layouts” of the animation
film made French /Luxembourg “Le Roman
de Renert”, he still participated
in the accomplishment of important TV animation
series of European production, before opening
his own animation studio in Italy. This
studio originated the society “Rainbow,
srl”, endowed with the most advanced
technology and professionals for the animation
production and multimedia, company that
today he directs.
In this society, Straffi directs several
animation works such as “Pimpa”
for RAI (first prize in the Television Festival
of Amalfi “Cartoons on the Bay”),
“AstroKids”, “Belphegor”
and part of the animation feature film “THE
Blue Arrow.”
In 1997, he directs the interactive CD-ROM
“TOMMY & OSCAR” that was
a sudden and enormous success, having been
distributed in 28 countries in 14 different
linguistic versions. This CD-ROM had already
won the “Bologna New Measured Prize”
(Italy) and the “Children Software
Revue Award” (USA), before winning
Multimedia prize in the AVANCA’98.
Given the character and the history’s
international success, the “Rainbow”
is already to producing the second chapter
of the adventure “Tommy & Oscar”
in CD-ROM and a animation TV series of 26
episodes of 26 minutes each.
Iginio Straffi is one of the talented new
authors of the Italian multimedia.
